The VanceInfo PTE (VanceInfo Pre-Translation Engineering) system is a comprehensive localization pre-translation assistant tool utilizing MT (Machine Translation) technology. VanceInfo PTE allows project managers to pre-translate documents with the MT tool before beginning the standard translation workflow. Preprocessing content with this system will dramatically reduce manual workload, helping to assuring terminology consistency and efficiently shorten the project production cycle. The system is completely developed and fully owned by VanceInfo - it brings scalability, flexibility and increased productivity to the production of translation projects.
A traditional localization project workflow usually includes three stages: translation, editing, and proofreading. In the translation stage, translators need to manually type the translated text into the document. Manual typing is prone to errors such as typos, missed translations and inconsistencies, and is above all a time consuming task. These are factors can have a negative impact on the subsequent stages and drastically reduce the productivity during the course of a project. In large projects, project managers are challenged with coordinating teams of internal and external translation and editing resources, adhering to tight deadlines and closely monitoring linguistic quality. An essential factor in producing high quality localized products apart from general language quality and correctness is the consistent use of terminology throughout all product related materials. Even in small scale localization projects, extensive manual tasks leave a large margin for error and greatly reduce efficiency. This traditional workflow leaves doors open for change - Now, VanceInfo PTE makes it happen.
With VanceInfo PTE, you can:
- Reduce typing time. VanceInfo PTE can significantly reduce typing time, the probability of typos and missed translations. The result is a significant increase in translation speed and higher quality.
- Keep terms consistent. Since translation projects always involve multiple linguists working as a team, the challenge is to assure terminology consistency throughout the project and all product components. VanceInfo PTE delivers terminology consistency of almost 100 percent - guaranteed.
- Automatically populate UI translation. During software localization, it is common for translators to search glossaries for User Interface terms. This is a time consuming effort. Now, VanceInfo PTE can automatically populate most UI entries into the appropriate location in accordance with required formats. It’s quick and accurate!
- Automatic format changes. Localization of text or a product often requires changes to the original format to accommodate the target language and reflect its characteristics. Taking English-to-Chinese localization as an example, many formatting changes will be required, including the use of spaces between English and Chinese characters, using Chinese double byte parenthesis if the text within contains Chinese words and changing bold fonts in the UI to normal fonts with Chinese quotation marks. VanceInfo PTE can automatically complete all of the above modifications.

VanceInfo PTE is more than a pre-translation assistant tool. It is a change to the localization workflow. The system currently supports English to Chinese localization projects but we are investing in the support for additional languages.
